Today was all about figuring out a pipeline for art development. Jessy and I spent some time messing around with the sketches from last night and figured out a process that should work for now.
She digitally draws them and then exports the images as PNG. I turn the PNG's into vector lines by using 'image trace' in AI, then clean up the lines as needed. I color them in and add highlights and shadows before adding the black stroke around them. Jessy helps with the colors if I'm struggling, as I'm red/green colorblind.
We got the 3 types of meat and 4 different sweets finished, it took a little longer than I thought it would but I feel like it should get quite a bit faster as we get used to the pipeline and expectations. Lots of communication is needed for a good lean pipeline and we spent a lot of time going over the different aspects of our workflow, goals and things to keep in mind while creating.
I quickly updated the assets in the game with the ones created, though I'm going to have to do more work tomorrow setting up additional bombs/sweets as well as limiting the meats based on level + adjusting the energy gained based on the different meat.
Step 8/1000
This first game really feels like it's coming together. I find some nice art really makes a game feel more fun.
so STOKED to work with you :) Having loads of fun making art for us (even more excited about drawing TADPOLE MAN)
