I've been looking for software that would let me build games without having to code for quite awhile now. About 6 months ago I found GDevelop and started to fall in love. The setup is similar to other programs I've used, Adobe Flash and Storyline 360, so I already have a level of comfort before even learning anything.
The biggest issue was, I started the first tutorial about 6 months ago as well, and after putting in a half-assed hour, I called it a night. The next day I found reasons to not work on it, and the day after that. Soon it was 2 months and when I opened it up, a new version of GDevelop had come out, so I updated that and looked over what I had..... that's enough progress right? I told myself I'd start the demo again the next day, but no real surprise I didn't end up touching that demo until today. It hit 6pm and I hadn't worked on anything, but since I have to write a blog post no matter what, I opened the demo back up and started working. It ended up going a lot smoother then I was thinking it would, I was able to get through the main demo and only have the bonus / extras to add in. I now have my first GDevelop game, it has a main menu, game screen, game over popup and can be reset. Tomorrow I'll add some extras, falling hearts that recover health, and start updating the art.
